Day 7: Emergency Light and Heat

The 7th Day of Preparedness: Emergency Light and Heat

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads…

I love to nestle all snug in my bed, or snug on the couch with a warm blanket, or snug in my slippers and sweater.

I just love to be warm!

In an emergency, staying warm and having light make it easier to handle most anything. Light and heat really are essential.

Chapter 7 of Be Prepared, Not Scared is all about what to purchase, store, and practice with to be able to provide light and heat in an emergency.

We’ve moved past the big three – Food, Water, and Shelter, and are now focusing on the things that will be essential in a long term emergency situation.

If a winter storm were to knock out your power for the next 10 days (my good friend in New York had this happen a few years ago…) would you be able to stay warm in the weather you are experiencing in your neck of the woods?  Would you have a light source that could last that long?

These are all great questions to ask yourself when preparing.

So as you nestle over the next few days, think about what you would need to stay comfortable in an emergency, and get ready to start preparing in the New Year.

Chapter 7 - Emergency Light and Heat

From Chapter 7:

In a short term emergency, you will be thinking of shelter, water, and food. Those are the basic needs we have to take care of to survive. Once those basic needs are cared for, we need to consider how to provide light, heat, and fuel – for heat, power, and cooking – in an emergency.

This is an area you can spend a considerable amount of time and money preparing for. You can spend both if you have them, but there are also basics that we will cover that get you a lot of bang for your buck and time.

Make sure to buy the book HERE so you will be ready to start in January.

And join me for the Book Launch event on December 30th.

We can nestle together and kick this off as a community.

Happy holidays to you!
