Function Focused Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Function Focused Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is a myofunctional therapy practice in Grand Rapids, Michigan, led by Mandy Muntz, a dental hygienist, orofacial myofunctional therapist, Buteyko Breathing Instructor, and member of the American Academy for Oral Systemic Health (AAOSH). Myofunctional therapy retrains the tongue and facial muscles toward four primary goals: nasal breathing, lip seal, proper tongue posture, and a correct swallowing pattern. It can support children and adults with sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea, tongue-tie—including exercises before and after a frenectomy—TMJ pain, headaches and neck tension, thumb and finger habits, and orthodontic relapse.

Programs include a comprehensive evaluation, a Mini Myo program for children under four, habit elimination, the full foundational program, pre- and post-frenectomy exercises, and Buteyko breathing coaching. The clinical team includes Mandy, Janetta, and Carrie, all of whom are dental hygienists, orofacial myofunctional therapists, and members of AAOSH. Mandy and Janetta are also Craniosacral Therapists.

Additional services include craniosacral therapy, as well as nasal septoplasty/nasal balloon release offered one day each month by the practice’s resident physical therapist.
